Maintenance Mechanic - Eleroy, IL

Furst-McNess Company is seeking a dynamic, assertive individual for the position of Maintenance Mechanic in the Eleroy, IL facility.  This individual will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairing plant equipment and vehicles along with maintenance of the facility and grounds.

Responsibilities:                                                  

  • Perform preventative or corrective maintenance action for all equipment, vehicles facilities and grounds, as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot, repair all plant equipment and complete projects, utilizing the following skills or knowledge:  3-phase electrical, machinery, mechanical, sheet metal fabrication, welding, plumbing, hydraulic, pneumatic, fire protection, construction and modification, carpentry, and other areas as required.
  • Maintain and purchase inventory of parts, tools and supplies, ensure upkeep of the maintenance area, and take responsibility for maintenance equipment within the facility.
  • Follow safe work practices and procedures at all times, including safe lifting and completion & cleanup of all projects, lock and tag out, confined space, spill control, OSHA, proper use of chemicals and tools.
  • Perform upkeep in the following areas, as required:  grounds cleanup, snow removal, lawn and outdoor care, painting, lighting repair and replacement, furniture, building, and roof repair, production or production support equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair all manufacturing, packaging and warehousing machinery.
  • Have basic knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and mechanics.
  • Participate in designing and developing in-house projects that improve productivity, meet regulations, enhance quality or improve safety.
  • Maintain all maintenance records for all equipment installations, repairs and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Perform other work-related duties as requested or required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be able to succeed within and adhere to the culture of the Furst-McNess Company.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
  • Education equivalent to high school diploma, along with having additional training in welding, electrical, plumbing, and two years of maintenance mechanic experience in a manufacturing or agricultural environment.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and perform basic mathematical calculations.  Ability to read blueprints and electrical and pneumatic schematics.
  • Ability to maintain and operate skid loaders, end loaders and other production equipment, as required.
  • Ability to ascend ladders and various heights using stairs, elevated walkways and/or elevators.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or stoop up to 70 lbs. of material on a regular or continuous basis.
  • Ability to maneuver heavy loads (up to 2,000 lbs. pallets) with a pallet jack; safely operate all equipment along with being a certified forklift operator.
  • Ability to perform cleaning operations while exposed to dusty environment, and ability to wear/use all appropriate protective equipment.
  • Ability to vary work schedule as necessary; depending on weather, departmental, or production needs.
  • Ability to work independently.  Ability to effectively communicate machine or building problem areas to supervisors or co-workers as necessary.
  • Ability to learn and comply with GMP and regulatory requirements imposed on manufacturing facilities by the FDA, OSHA, EPA and FDA in regard to manufacturing of food and drug products.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member with the Company.
