Formulations Coordinator - Freeport, IL

Furst-McNess Company has an immediate opening for a Formulations Coordinator.  This individual will be responsible for overseeing the creation and maintenance of product formulas, labels and SAP input of Furst-McNess Agri-Group products.  Also responsible for maintaining software systems for formulation and ration balancing.  This position assures that state and federal registrations and licenses are submitted along with providing technical product assistance to customers and Livestock Feeding Consultants.



  • In coordination with the Product Managers and Species Nutritionists, develop and provide product formulas, mill mixes and master label copy to company manufacturing facilities, toll manufacturers and client feed manufacturers. Maintain product records in electronic and paper files as appropriate.
  • Formulate custom products as requested by field sales. Create formulas and tags for production. Assign product codes. Assure all information necessary to make and price product is complete.
  • Input and maintain SAP product information including material master, bill of materials, master recipes, production versions and product hierarchy information.
  • Manage and prioritize work projects to ensure timely completion.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing plants and customer service group to ensure proper formulation & labeling of products. Communicate when completed to purchasing and pricing teams.
  • Maintain ingredient specification files for BestMix input.
  • Systematically monitor products for discontinuation as lack of sales would dictate.
  • Maintain the formulation software system.  Install and test updates as available.
  • Maintain the ration balancing software in cooperation with the Species Nutritionists.
  • Maintain feed license and product registrations by state as appropriate. 
  • Provide information on products for customers and field sales force as requested.
  • Perform other work-related duties as requested or required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be able to succeed within the culture of the Furst-McNess Company.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in an agricultural related field, along with 3-5 years of formulations and technical customer service experience.  Education equivalent to a Master's degree in Animal Science or the equivalent in related work experience is preferred.  Must also demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the industry.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of work routines and perform assigned duties with a minimum of supervision.
  • Working knowledge of computers and SAP, company formulations and ration balancing systems and Microsoft Office products.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written, and is capable of utilizing these skills within all levels of the Company as well as externally.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service to all associates and management staff, showing a sense of urgency relative to solving problems, performing assigned tasks, employee concerns, etc.
  • Ability to effectively organize work schedules and manage multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member within the technical services department and company, as a whole.
  • Ability to be flexible and be willing to change along with recommending changes that can enhance our ability to serve both internal & external customers more effectively and in a professional manner.  Respect other peoples' points of view and able to take constructive criticism.
  • Ability to travel, either by car or by commercial plane, including overnight stays, as business dictates.  Must, at all times, possess a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record within guidelines set forth in company vehicle policy.
