Financial Accounting Manager - Freeport, IL

Furst-McNess Company is seeking a dynamic, assertive individual for the position Financial Accounting Manager in the Freeport, IL Corporate Office.  This individual will be responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting.  This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.  The Financial Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.  This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and payroll.  The Financial Accounting Manager will have contact with both internal and external contacts that requires strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.

Key Responsibilities:                                                 

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely cyclical and year-end close.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of all cyclical and year-end financial information.
  • Responsible for financial consolidations.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll.
  • Responsible to ensure that sale tax returns (U.S. and Canada) are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate bank reconciliations.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and reconciliation of the fixed asset system, including the reconciliation of depreciation expense for all areas.
  • Work with the Controller and CFO on inquiries and projects as requested.
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
  • Perform other work related duties as requested or required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be able to succeed within and adhere to the culture of the Furst-McNess Company.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent in related work experience, CPA perferable.
  • Five to seven years of accounting and financial analysis related experience.
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
  • Ability to show a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to think analytically.
